His father Adrian is a retired construction worker. His grandfather was the first taxi driver in Kāneʻohe and later captained the glass-bottom boat in Kāneʻohe bay. His grandmother, Emma Hoapili, worked at the Libby Pineapple Cannery, and taught Hawaiian language and culture through the public school kupuna program. Jarrett’s mother, Marilyn (Stewart) Keohokalole, was born in Medford, Oregon, and is the granddaughter of Scottish immigrants. Her career spanned over three decades as a neonatal intensive care nurse at both Kapiʻolani Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Moanalua. Adrian and Marilyn raised Jarrett and his brothers Phillip and Dane, and have been married for over forty years.<img src="https://run.imgix.net/223a419a-9de1-492d-8ad4-acd3c6053f94/f0c81532-2a65-41df-b253-f6be131ae8ba/f0c81532-2a65-41df-b253-f6be131ae8ba.jpg?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=12&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C2592%2C1944&amp;w=1500" alt="" caption="" align="right" alignwidth="40" variant="framed">A 2001 graduate of Saint Louis School, Jarrett was an honor roll student and Commander of the JROTC Battalion. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in 2006. There, he met his future wife, Kuʻulani Miyashiro. After graduating, Kuʻulani pursued a Masterʻs degree at New York University and Jarrett worked for a public defender in the New York City Criminal Court and later in administration at a public school in Brooklyn. Disillusioned by the Iraq War and the Great Recession, Jarrett and Kuʻulani volunteered for the 2008 Obama presidential campaign. They phone banked, attending rallies, and knocked door-to-door in swing-state city, Philadelphia. With a desire to come home and start a family, they returned to Hawaiʻi in 2010. Jarrett graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaiʻi and worked as a legal fellow at the Department of Land &amp; Natural Resources before being nudged to run for office in 2014. Since then, he has spent the last 12 years as a devoted father of three keiki and policymaker focused on lowering costs for local families, protecting public health &amp; safety, and transforming government.

As a next generation policymaker, Jarrett worked tirelessly to transform government - pushing for greater transparency, accountability, and fairness in the treatment of people. He modernized the State Legislature by implementing remote participation in public hearings and livestreaming the legislature on YouTube. He also played a central role in passing legislation to explicitly establish access to abortion in Hawaiʻi after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Jarrett is not afraid to stand up to bullies in Washington and will continue to fight the extremism in Congress by: Stopping the violent, unconstitutional encroachment of ICE in our communitiesPushing back against the billionaires who have co-opted our governmentFighting the cronyism that has allowed Trump to triple his net worth since taking office

Fighting Extremists in Washington

As the son of a nurse, health has always been a top priority for Jarrett. He has focused on centering our communityʻs health and safety where system-level failures exposed people and communities to risk. For example, he helped lead efforts to shut down the Navy’s Red Hill fuel storage facility and address groundwater contamination after the 2021 fuel spill. As Health Committee Chair during the pandemic, he worked with experts to keep our hospitals from being overrun. And he worked with legislative leaders to pass tax exemptions for doctors and dentists who serve medicaid patients, so that low income families could still receive care. Jarrett will continue to maintain our public health &amp; safety in Congress by: Protecting safety net programs like SNAP, Social Security and Medicare&nbsp;Expanding access to healthcare coverage and servicesRequiring the Navy to clean up fuel contamination at Red Hill

As a husband and father of three school-aged children, Jarrett fully understands the struggles of working families – because his family is living it, too. Jarrett has prioritized lowering costs for local people so that they can stay and thrive here in Hawaiʻi. He wrote and passed legislation to halt spiraling insurance costs for condominiums. He worked to pass historic funding for affordable housing development and partnered with the community to pass laws to crack down on illegal vacation rentals across the state.
